Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth
About Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth
The Vermouth par excellence, for those who want to know what good vermouth is all about. This is the original sweet vermouth, first created in 1786 by infusing more than 30 different kinds of spices and herbs into a neutral spirit, distilling it, and then adding white wine. This is the recipe that set the standard. And it’s still the bottle that those who know reach for when they reach for a truly quality vermouth. Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth is one of our most popular bottles.
Tasting Notes
Starts sweet and evolves into a satisfying bitter, almost close to an amaro. Vanilla, raisin, baking spice, dried apricot, licorice, root beer, and citrus peel.
Suggested Serves
Classic: Make a Manhattan the way it was originally intended – two parts vermouth to one part rye whiskey.
Unexpected: This makes a next-level negroni. Try another take on it with the Negroni sbagliato: use Prosecco instead of gin, top with a slice of citrus.
Production Notes
First invented in 1786 in Turin by Antonio Benedetto Carpano, this exceptional vermouth has survived in its original inimitable recipe thanks to the love and the skill of Fratelli Branca Distillerie which, with its motto “Novare Serbando”, has been able to preserve the product’s original qualities and characteristics.
It starts with white wine grapes from select Italian varietals which are harvested and processed immediately, to prevent oxidation. Aromatic plants are extracted by cold and hot infusion, methods that have been perfected over centuries. This special recipe uses only the highest quality botanicals, like whole pod vanilla beans from Madagascar. Papua New Guinea, and Tahiti.
