About Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch
Batches 16 is currently shipping.
The beloved Islay single malt aged ten years and bottled at natural distillery strength. This gives the depth of genuine taste and texture that you find when you’re sampling whisky at its source.
The annual release of the 10 Year Cask Strength is always much anticipated as every single one is considered to be a fantastic whisky. You’ll find it’s a wonderful balance of red fruits, smoke, sweetness and that iodine, maritime quality which is hallmark Laphroaig.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, sweet cereals with biscuit notes, fresh oak, smoked cedar and Manuka honey. Amsterdam pipe tobacco, shoe polish and old leather combined with a touch of waxy church candle, vanilla cream, nutmeg and oak extracts. On the palate, sweet and spicy, with burnt oak staves, barbecued marshmallows, toffee and sea salt, vanilla and Belgium caramel waffles. Roasted coffee fudge cream on sticky toffee pudding, with a hint of white pepper and crushed cinnamon. The finish is floral, with spicy oak tannins, iodine, and sea salt.
Suggested Serves
Sip this one neat. If it’s your thing, add a drop of two of water, which will release a rich aroma of peat smoke with some sweetness and strong hints of the sea.
Production Notes
One of the few remaining Scottish distilleries to malt its own barley, Laphroaig’s commitment to its craft is evident every step of the way.
Where other distilleries source peat from across Scotland, Laphroaig tends its own Islay peats (the moss, lichen, and heather which gives Islay whisky that distinctive, medicinal taste) by hand-cutting and periodically replenishing the beds. After cut, the peat dries for three months.
The barley is malted and peated, then fermented, and finally twice-distilled by copper-pot stills. The unusual shape of the stills, with a flat base and flat surfaces, are part of what gives the whisky its intensity.
After distillation, the whisky ages for 10 years in seasoned and re-charred oak barrels that sit along the shores of Loch Laphroaig. This imbues the spirit with that salt sea air taste.
Bottled at cask strength, Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch is a truly remarkable dram.
