These recipes include easy-to-make classics like the Hemingway Daiquiri, and other enticing cocktails, so grab a bottle of Luxardo and be prepared to master the art of at-home mixology.”- Forbes
Tasting Notes
Clear and bright, this cherry-flavored liqueur has an aroma more reminiscent of an eau de vie than a traditional liqueur. The palate, however, reveals a different story. Its texture is creamy and viscous, sugary at the start with an underlying heat, culminating in a vibrant cherry flavor that truly shines through.
Although it might prove a bit too thick and sweet to drink on its own, it’s obvious why this liqueur is crucial in rounding out classic cocktails like the Last Word and Aviation.
As for substitutes, there are a number of less vibrant cherry liqueurs on the market, but none quite captures the magic of Luxardo. More than a liqueur, it’s a tradition, a taste of Italy, and a toast to good taste.
Suggested Serves
- Classic: The Aviation is always a winner: dry gin, lemon juice, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur
- Unexpected: Do as they do in Rome, sip neat as an after dinner drink. Also ideal spooned over fresh fruits like strawberries, pineapples, or peaches.

Production Notes
Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur is made from Sour Marasca cherries, a prized possession of the Luxardo family. The family cultivates these cherries in the lush orchards nestled within the Euganean Hills in Veneto. Girolamo Luxardo’s special formula, crafted in 1821, still serves as the blueprint to produce this exquisite liqueur.
With the arrival of summer comes the cherry harvest. Orchard harvesters gather the cherries, branches, and leaves and place them in larchwood vats for two years, infusing them with neutral alcohol. This infusion, solids and all, is then distilled thoughtfully. The cherry distillate then ages gracefully in large Finnish ash wood vats for a period of 12-18 months.
